ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

AML recognises that our activities can result in direct and indirect impacts on the environment throughout the life cycle of our operations.  Therefore, our operational objective is to avoid, mitigate and minimise potential issues by using baseline assessment tools and conducting environmental assessments to evaluate and implement systems and controls.

Environmental risk assessment is carried out routinely at all our sites as a requirement of our Standards and Procedures, the aim being to assess environmental risks associated with each site throughout the life of the project in order that they may be prioritised for management attention and for appropriate controls to be put in place to achieve an appropriate outcome.  This is accomplished through our Health, Safety and Environment Management System and specific actions include:-

  • Assessing environmental management practices at each operating site.

  • Ensuring consistent application of our project and operational environmental assessment methodologies.

  • Reviewing and strengthening our environmental permitting and compliance practices across all projects and operating sites.

  • Continued implementation of the tailings management standard, including independent, third-party reviews at all operating sites.

  • Reviewing and strengthening our closure planning practices.

  • Implementing energy management plans to reduce energy consumption and associate greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Implementing comprehensive water management plans at each operating site.

  • Aligning the biodiversity management plans at each operation with the requirements of the Group Procedure for Biodiversity Management and enhancing monitoring programs to identify, protect and manage native vegetation and same habitat.
